Finger tops have been made by various cultures for thousands of years. According to Valerie Oliver's online article, "History of the Top"*, the earliest know tops were found in Ur (Muqayyar, Iraq) from as early as 3500 BC. Our tops aren't that old! They are made from eastern hard maple so that the spinning point is fine, which allows for a good spin. Our tops are on display at the Ebb Tide Gallery of Gifts in Gig Harbor, WA, at LinHeid Gallery in Port Orchard, WA (360.876.7222) and at Armchair Books in Port Orchard, WA. Our minimum web order, due to shipping and packaging costs, is five tops at $4.95 each. Order here
We use liquid Crayolas™ or artists felt tips conforming to ASTM D-4236 (both these media are certified to be non-toxic) to decorate our tops.
Our bottle stoppers mostly are made wood salvaged from other projects. One of our most popular "woods" is grapevine. The vine comes from the many vineyards in Washington. We make the stopper when the wood is wet. The wood itself is fantastically patterned with knots, burls and bark. As it dries, the wood distorts into various "tipsy" shapes. Order these well in advance as the wood is sometimes difficult to get. Our bottle stoppers are on display at the Ebb Tide Gallery of Gifts in Gig Harbor, WA and at Armchair Books in Port Orchard, WA.
Our regular stoppers are $19.95, grapevine stoppers are $24.95. Those made of very rare and expensive woods may be more.
